Absolutely agree. The UK is such a poor market for Marriott. If I go to Newcastle then there are several Hilton options, many budget options and yet Marriott have nothing in Newcastle but cheekily brand their Gateshead hotel as such - hint: it's not in Newcastle.

Even then, the Gateshead one is awful, old and needs a massive overhaul to bring it out of the 1970s. They've changed it instead to a Delta hotel so they don't need to.
