Whether you get compensation for your rental car absolutely depends on the reason for their cancellation.

If they are only offering you the $5.60 refund, that says to me that you booked with points which will automatically put back into your account.
I'm very confused as well! They told our friends that the refund was only $5.60 because they already took part of the flight (SJD-MDW - then MDW-MCI was cancelled). Makes no sense. I called and was told the same thing. I called again today and did the cancellation and my wife (who it's booked under) has a $4.16 *travel fund* credit (so not even the $5.60? And travel funds instead of to her card?). She said she couldn't see how many points we would get back. I see nothing for my account (and received no emails) for the credit. Southwest's systems seem to be all kinds of messed up right now. IDK what to do but when calling in they seem to be clueless. I spent an hour with a woman today who cancelled my flight but in that full hour she spent about a half hour to find out the flight was canceled due to weather and about a half hour while she was trying to find out how many points I was getting back (and I gave up and hung up at that point).

Also, I see no points refunded for my wife's account. They said it could take 6 hours. But it's now been 6 and no points are credited.
