No - AA offers a headset that is available for use until 1 hour before arrival. This isn't new. If headset availability is a key requirement, then a different airline may be what you need
Most airlines that I use do not collect headsets in at all during the journey - either they are fixed into the system - which is annoying when wanting to use with my laptop or are just at the seat ready for use. I just tend to use my own rather than the airlines'
