There is no airport in Barra da Tijuca, you cannot flight to there with commercial flights, only with helicopter chartered. Your best option is to fly to SDU when flying domestic or to GIG when arriving from international flight.

I’m not an expert about Brazil, but I feel more safe at Barra than at some other beaches of Rio. And I’m not a friend of overcrowded beaches. GH Rio/Barra is a beautiful place to relax and in Barra there is also a kind of party on weekends. Maybe I’m getting old.
Your information is not accurate. You cannot fly to Barra da Tijuca with airplane from CGH, you either fly to SDU or GIG. It takes about 30 minutes from both of those airport to GH hotel by car, unless you take a slow bicycle ride, which can be taken in 2,5 hours. The trip from CGH or GRU to GH RJ will take less 2 hours. Flight time is less than hour plus ride 30 minutes.
Barra da Tijuca beach line is my preferred area when visiting RJ but a transportation would be needed to move when in GH. Nothing close to GH within walking distance.
