This is actually my 3rd time staying at this property as I stayed twice during COVID times when the property was in various states of renovation. I also believe this is the first time I've been here as a Globalist. This was a last-minute (20 minutes prior) booking on points as 8K points would get me a 3.3 CPP redemption as well as free valet parking (I don't normally have a car, except for areas like Houston). I wanted to try a Globalist experience here. Overall, there are issues but also major highlights. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Note: I had to ask at check-in for an upgrade and was placed in a King Deluxe (despite standard suites being available online at booking 20 minutes prior). I think the Deluxe rooms are only on the top floor (30) and do have renovated bathrooms, unlike the other standard rooms where the bedrooms were renovated and not the bathrooms (I think - styling is much different).

Pros:
  • Bed was pretty comfortable - plush mattress and plush pillows made up for thin-ish covers (though not the worst for a HR)
  • Shower pressure was decent
  • Globalist breakfast at Shula's is divine
    • Buffet plus made-to-order omelets, pancakes, and waffles
    • MONKEY BREAD (they call it cinnamon french toast bake) is so good - best thing ever (I raved to the waitress and front desk) - apparently this is there every day
    • Everything I had was quite tasty - bacon, biscuits, pancakes, omelets, etc.
    • Gratuity added already on the check - no charge on bill
  • Valet parking was fast and was waived on my award stay
  • Offered 4 PM late checkout proactively
  • Agent at checkout was super friendly - really good vibes
  • Love the atrium and elevators - a childhood memory even though I never stayed here overnight as a child
  • Nice view of Downtown, especially at sunrise, even with the horrid abandoned Days Inn decaying ruin still blotting the skyscape
Cons:
  • Check-in needed work
    • "Thanks for being a member" not acknowledging actual status
    • Had to ask for an upgrade
    • Had to ask about the breakfast benefit
  • Climate control is really loud when it turns on
  • Why are the pillows so small? At least there are 5 of them.
  • Room decor is sparse, and some of the outlets were already too loose or non-operational
  • Shower head was too low - kept bumping into it, and I'm not that tall
Overall, I would definitely return - the breakfast is really that good.
