PS My OCI "card" predates the fingerprint-upon-application requirement, so they don't have anything on file to compare my current fingerprint to.

PPS According to this document from GoI (warning: clicking will download file) I am exempt from fingerprinting because of age, but I did not qualify until last year so that does not explain prior years.
I travel very frequently to India ( every 2 to 3 months) and the first time this happened was in September 2022 ..Did not have this in July 2022 or on any previous visits

My OCI is over 11 years old and my fingerprints were never captured before this time

Once they have captured it for the first time the second time seems easier ( provided it works )

You might have had a lucky escape due to age ( says that over 70 is exempt)
