Believe it or not, the rule is actually for the benefit of FTers (and similar). You know those frequent complaints about lounges being overcrowded? Well BA decided strictly not to allow their staff to contribute to the problem.
But how do they contribute to the problem? There are a finite amount of premium seats (leaving aside status holders who could be staff anyway) and whether one is staff or a revenue passenger they aren’t taking up any more room in the lounge.
I must confess I’ve never understood it.
