This is the case with many similar routes. I remember my boss telling me that wide body jets would always fly transcon routes and that he didn't like it when 757s with one aisle flew coast to coast.

CAI was historically a WW route. In the space of 12 years its gone from being operated by 747-400 with First Class to a 3 Class 777 to a 2 class midhaul ex BMI 321 with Club World/World Traveller to the current Neo and Club Europe / Euro Traveller with BoB setup.
No matter how you choose to spin it or justify it, you have to admit that's hardly progression from a passenger perspective.
