A few days later, nothing happens. For the next 4 months, I wrote approximately 6 emails, chasing for reinstatement. In my final email, I threatened going to the local media. By the time I was writing my final email, I was prepared to give up. After all, the 15K wasn't worth my effort anymore. 2 months after that email, the miles magically appeared in the account.
Note, I'm not sure if it's part of their policy to extend miles expiring. But maybe because the agent on the phone advised so, they had to honour it?
So the long story short is, it can be done. But I am not sure if it worth the effort.
Clearly the the agent provided the wrong advice. Voluntary cancellation of tickets redeemed usign expired miles will not be re-instated. Only if SQ cancels the flight on their own (invokuntarily to the pax), will the expired miles be reinstated and given a 6 month extension from the date of refund.
As above poster mentioned, if miles in ticket are also accorded the same 6 month extension, it serves as a loophole to keep extending the miles valdiity - albeit member have to pay the redeposit fee of up to USD 75 each time.
