Am I allowed to transmit a wifi access point on an airplane? The WAPs onboard are certainly TSO'd, but of course, wifi is a two-way communication.
Regardless, I always see several access points inflight that are probably devices in luggage/carryon that people may have forgotten to turn off.
It probably depends on the phone, but I know mine will connect to a wifi signal (vs regular cell) and then "share" that connection over wireless tether.
