You are dealing with 2 different markets (taking the particular cities out the equation)
  • UK to USA west coast
  • USA west coast to AU east coast

From LAX to BNE/SYD/MEL will give a lot more options than just SFO-SYD (1 carrier).
Fiji Airlines FJ via NAN and TN, via PPT are options.
