I guess if you’re a Bonvoy elite, booked a base room and get upgraded to a one bedroom corner suite and could also take advantage of the FHR benefits then yes, I can see the value. Otherwise, the property just misses the mark for me.

I booked a corner suite on this stay and although, the welcome at check-in was fine, there was no further upgrade offered. All the benefits that came with FHR were explained to us from breakfast to 100 dining credit which was great. The agent also proactively offered either 1000 welcome bonus or room credit.

Now the suite itself, with quite an odd configuration (the hotel’s shape is weird in general) was fine on the surface, but if you look deeper, I noticed curtain tracks that were damaged and dings on the side of the office desk. The details one come to expect from true luxury properties were not quite there.

The executive lounge is open and is serving above average offerings. The physical lounge is stylish, but even here, the dings, crumbs, and scratches here and there detract from the overall high quality I was expecting. There’s no complimentary alcohol, (not even a house red or white) which is still fine, as the food offerings could easily substitute for a breakfast or dinner on a restaurant. Overall, something just seems to be missing to make it memorable. Other than free alcohol, perhaps the impersonal crew? They seem to be just going through the motions with minimal to no effort to connect to guests. They definitely do the job, but the warmth and attention to detail is also very low here . I approached one and ask for forks (which were oddly missing from the station) and she looked at me weirdly then motioned towards their supposed location not realizing all they have out are spoons and knives.

The location is also okay, but can definitely feel detached and isolated especially on a gloomy and wet Vancouver day. There’s a Costco nearby which is fascinating if one wants to get a bottle of fine wine.

We tried both Victor and Honey Salt and both hit the marked for us as far as quality of food and service. So both were enjoyable. The valet team seems to be friendly as well and if you have an EV, they’ll charge the car for you happily for 55 Canadian.

So overall, I did not hate the property, but I also didn’t love it. The JW Marriott was just okay and certainly didn’t blow me away. I just felt the property was missing in character and seemed impersonal, and of course several details that true luxury hotels focus on were missing during this stay.

Its too bad you didn't enjoy more of your stay at this hotel. I was staying here pretty much every other week in 2019-2020, and I enjoyed it very much. Almost always got upgraded to the garden suite, with the big ... living room and a pool table. If I didn't get that room, then I got the corner suite.
The executive lounge was good too for an US/Canada lounge wise. Can't compared them to the Asian or European lounges, but definitely better than most America's lounge.
The D lounge was nice as was the Victor restaurant.
