If it was a Sunday then its highly like was me.

So yes its easy though you have to go through passport control and after that you have to make sure you don't go down the escalator to pick up bags just continue where you find a small security scanner with two bored person. They will want to see you boarding pass so make sure it's in your hand. If you unlucky some airport staff will be in front of you however all the times it was just me who get through that station. Sometimes the exit door is locked but the scanning staff has a key. You would end where the passport control stations are however I would not recommend to go through as nothing there after that especially if this is the late rotation. Normally I would just go to the lounge and stay there for 20-30 min and when the screen says its boarding then I head to the passport control.
The only execution is when the aircraft parked to a bus gate as you would have naturally less time. That case you might not have time to get to the lounge. I've done most of the time the Sunday rotation as it leaves LGW lunch time and there is over an hour gap in Malta between the flights. Obviously if you have an EU passport it can help if passport control is busy but I can't really see how can anyone miss a flight but probably no time for the lounge then.
Originally there was a door before passport control but it never reopened since covid. (unless in December or Jan they changes something)
