You answered your own question. The 787 fuselage is far too narrow for 1-2-1 (really, 2-4-2) seating. The Polaris seat is arguably too narrow on the 777, and the 787 is a foot narrower.
Seats 1D/E and 9D/E were the nicest seats in the UA fleet since they dropped Global First.
