A big vote from me for a soft baby carrier/sling. We used them for our three kids in preference to a stroller in everyday life, not just at the airport. They are genuinely less hassle in every situation. You have both hands free to grab bags, passports, documents, etc.
I almost feel bad when I see other parents messing about with strollers and a bunch of crap at security and at the gate while we just walk right in with the kid on our back. Have almost never needed to remove the child when passing through security, does take a bit of arguing some times and we are TSA-PRE/Nexus so may not work where they use body scanners.
