Am I crazy for wanting to stay at the airport 4 extra hours and take my scheduled flight in first class just to avoid the middle seat?
Nope, you are not a weirdo! I did the same thing. On a short 1 hour flight I checked in early and was told there was a middle seat available on an earlier flight than my booking. I hate sitting close to strangers. It was a work trip years ago so was in economy. I politely asked if there was any other option and she said no as the flight was full. I said I would wait for the next flight and that it was fine and I understood if the plane was full. She asked..."so you are willing to miss this flight". Yes I am and it is ok. I'm happy to wait. Off I went to sit down and wait. About 10 minutes later I was called back to the podium and they had an aisle seat for me.
