I have both carry on and check in. The carry on are fine, but the check in ones take quite a beating. This is their current FAQ: RIMOWA’s lifetime guarantee does not apply to cosmetic wear and tear, misuse or abuse, damages caused by negligence or accident by any third party, particularly flight or transport damages.
You might want to buy some spare wheels. I don't recall ever using any warranty on a product. The only warranty I've ever used and that was only one time, was to get the thermostat in the new house I had purchased fixed. Other than that, never used any warranty that was free or paid for.
