FYI, Virgin Atlantic is VS, not VA (that's Virgin Australia). It's possible DL will present an online seat upgrade offer for your flight which can be upgraded with either cash or Skymiles, but there is no way to predict whether or not this will be offered nor how much cash/miles DL will ask for. If there is no online seat upgrade offer showing, the only way to upgrade is to exchange your VS coach award on DL for a Premium Select award on the same flight (assuming availability) for more VS miles. Delta has a Mileage Upgrade Award program, but these are only available for flights booked as revenue tickets and is not available on any kind of award booking.
