Wow, I've never realized there's so much co-worker envy. I'm sure there are plenty of people in situations where everybody is happy though. Or maybe it's just me since I work for a major aerospace company But my department is flexible enough where if you want to travel, you can usually get into a position where you can do so.

In my group, we're pretty much divided into travel and non-travel camps. The non-travelers are typically those with families who want to stay home. The people who travel (like me) are usually single and have flexible schedules. I guess we fit every FT stereotype <shrug>

I'm a bit of a special case though. It's generally known that I'm not a fan of Southern California so I think my manager gives me travel assignments to make me happy. Plus I'm the only one who's willing to take on 5 week travel assignments
