Seat Assignments on Avianca Segment

I have a 014 (Air Canada) ticket bought through a third party that includes a segment - Bogota to Santiago, Chile. I have all my seats selected for the other Air Canada segments but I am running into difficulties getting any of the three parties in this arrangement to take responsibility for making the seat arrangements with Avianca. The third party provider indicates that seats are assigned by the air line when it comes to the Avianca segment but they set up the seats for the Air Canada segments. Air Canada says that I should go to Avianca to get the seats assigned. I have run into this situation before and I have always been able to contact the airline directly to get the seats selected.

So I contacted Avianca (twice speaking to agents and twice through their website) and they indicated that the ticket is Air Canada's and it is their responsibility to select the seats. They say that they actually physically select the seats in the Avianca system. When I said that Air Canada indicates that it is Avianca's responsibility, they said I would have to select the seats at the airport. I am flying with my wife and we would prefer to fly together in the best seats possible. So I tried to select through the Avianca website. It indicated that seat preselection had been paid for but there was no way on the site to actually select the seats.

I know that there is a lot of advice to be given, such as don't go through third parties when booking flights (I try to keep telling myself that but...), but I really only want to find a way to book the seats on this segment. We are 31 days out from the flight so I would like to get the seats before they are already taken. Thanks for your advice.
