It does not help now, but in the past I was always booking one night per reservation. Then emailed the hotel that I had multiple reservations. This way I was able to add or substact nights in situations like this. Never an issue with the hotel.
This is a great approach, and that's exactly what I do with my airline tickets.. I always book one ways if they cost me the same as round trips. That kind of modularity really helps and I haven't applied to my hotel bookings.
