Bos is my home base and I have never been able to avoid check in when flying IB to Mad. Can't exactly remember the issues, but it ranged from not being able to get boarding pass online to having the bp and still being told at security to go back to check in counter. The good news is that the check in counter is right around the corner from security and lines are short.
