I have NEVER heard of an FA inquiring as to the contents of a bag in the overhead bin.

What this tells me is that it was food was apparent, based on odor or sloshing noise or visible leakage.

Kudos to the FA safeguarding everyone else's baggage (and heads, and clothes) from potentially disgusting consequences.
