My general take from encountering the FT thread over the years is that it kind of fell into a no-man's land, not able to compete on amenities with more recognizable brands, but not unique enough to have any pull as a boutique-type offering. The reviews I recall were generally meh - small rooms, no noteworthy elite treatment, etc. I'll also note that, as a local, I can't say I've ever recalled anyone I know from out of town staying here, or any mention of the property in any local publications, etc. But not sure what the new owners have or are planning to put into it - if it's just slapping a new sign on it, or if they're going to put capital in and make significant changes.
It definitely has been in a bit of a no man’s land- it was a Loews before it joined Hilton, and after joining Hilton languished there for the past few years as an outlier that wasn’t technically under any flag, even though one would think it could go under Curio or Tapestry. It was often one of the cheapest Hilton options around, and it sounds like that pricing, for better or worse (worse because surely that impacts how elite benefits are being delivered), is continuing for the time being.
