The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Classic Double, received Club InterContinental King.
How are the rooms?
Very spacious and the corner window provided great view. As with other rooms in the Strings, I think the bathroom took up too much space.
How is the exec. lounge?
Did not use, but club access seems to be just breakfast + afternoon tea + cocktail at the same lobby restaurant.
What was good and what was bad?
The good:
- Staff are kind and helpful as always. I requested a memory foam pillow during my last stay, and found one already on the bed when I got to the room
- In the top floors of an office building and small number of rooms which provide a sense of intimacy and great view
- Convenient location (3 mins to Shinagawa station, 20 mins to HND)
- Egg station at breakfast is amazing
- Meaningful upgrades
The bad:
- The noise from trains can be a bit disturbing, even for rail fans
- Somewhat lower quality in-room amenity comparing to other ICs
- Wi-Fi is not encrypted (same with all IHG properties)
The ugly:
- No mask requirement at buffet (other IHG properties in Japan would at least remind guests to wear masks)
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Used AMB certificate and paid $350 for two nights + 20K points, so excellent value. Would return if rooms are available at reasonable price.
