Stay Report - 1/20 to 1/21
Location: The best selling point of the hotel in my opinion. It's on 31st and Broadway a block from the Herald Square Subway Station (B/D/F/M and N/R/Q). Nearby are a number of restaurants and directly next to the hotel is a liquor store which actually had a lot of higher end brands. With traffic it took me about 20 minutes from LGA in an Uber.
Hotel: Apparently the hotel used to be a Holiday Inn Express of all things. It's one of those typical New York City style limited service properties where in a tall, skinny building with about eight rooms per floor. The lobby was very nice with a small seating area, fully stocked bar with a friendly bartender, a small restaurant which serves breakfast and dinner. Do note if you need ice it's apparently in the basement.
Check In: I arrived at 8 PM and got checked in. I was told I got $15 off at the bar/restaurant for dinner along with breakfast. The agent also said I'd been "upgraded" to a deluxe king. I said this wasn't much of an upgrade as they sell the rooms for $10 more a night. He laughed and said deluxe knight just meant a higher floor. As they had suites for sale that night I found this pretty disappointing.
Room: In a word, tiny. Even for New York City. There's no desk, the walls are oddly sterile without decorations (but I guess the crayon drawing on the ceiling helped) and while I had a coffeemaker I had no coffee. The bathroom was similarly small but at least had a hot shower. Wifi worked well and the hotel was very quiet, surprisingly so for New York.
Breakfast: All they had on weekends was a really limited buffet with sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes and mini waffles along with some breads, cheese, meat and fruit. Service was good at the restaurant at least.
Overall for the price and the location it works, but if you're not alone or you're going to spend any amount of time in the room I'd stay elsewhere. Oh and don't forget the $20 Urban Destination Scam Fee
