Crowne Plaza Doha - The Business Park

Index to Genius1 Trip Reports

Crowne Plaza Doha - The Business Park is well located if you have reason to be in close proximity to the airport (as I did), although West Bay or further North is of course the place to be for the majority of Doha activities. I stayed for four nights in late June, and as a Diamond Elite member was pleased to be upgraded no fewer than three categories from my booked Standard room to a Presidential Suite.

Whilst there were no door staff at my late arrival hour, a lone staff member was waiting for the obligatory security check in the lobby, and I was soon checked in and finding my way up to the first floor. My spacious 99 square metre Presidential Suite was located in the second tower, where the property's residences are also located.

The suite was arranged in a curved fashion, with a fairly spacious if oddly-shaped lobby, off which was a cloakroom.

The living room had a large L-shaped desk with guest chair, dining table for six, a sofa and armchair. I appreciated the welcome fruit platter and note.

The bedroom continued the curved theme, with a king-size bed and further desk. A kettle was provided, although oddly there was no coffee machine. The somewhat battered sliding wardrobe doors revealed a bathrobe and slippers.

The fully-tiled bathroom was spacious, with a bath and separate walk-in shower, separate toilet and bidet room, and inoffensive if not particularly luxurious wall-mounted amenities by Antipodes.

Floor to ceiling windows from both the living room and bedroom overlooked a primary school and its surrounding streets.

The design of the room, and indeed the entire hotel, is pretty dated in an early-2000s way, although aside from the dodgy wardrobe doors and there being no easily-accessible power sockets by the bed, this didn't detract from a comfortable stay.

The Club lounge on the sixth floor was still closed at the time of my visit, although I understand has since reopened.

I took breakfast each morning in Aramede, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant accessed just off the lobby on the ground floor. The buffet was reasonably extensive, with made-to-order egg dishes available. The overall vibe was a little like a school canteen, however. For other dining occasions, a further two restaurants are available; I sampled in-room dining one evening, which was fairly basic and certainly encouraged me out of the hotel on the subsequent two evenings.

I used the rooftop seventh-floor swimming pool once, which although small did the trick in freshening me up after a hot day under the Arabian sun.

In summary, this is a functional and business-orientated property which delivers a solid if slightly unmemorable experience at very affordable rates.
