While I agree that windhoek is not the most compelling destination there are some interesting things to see. There is some Buildings built by the North Koreans in the particular brutalist architecture including some government buildings. There is also Hero's Acre a monument a little outside of town, and some of the history surronding early 20th century. We had a guide for the day which was most helpful, I dont remember where he was booked from, but he was a German guide named Adolf (which we have never forgotten that German children would still be named Adolf!). Like the previous poster, we did not want to drive ourselves.

and to add on to topics Ethosha was our least favorite place of the three places in Namibia, lodges were too big, the safari vehicles carried too many passengers, and the paved roads almost made it feel like a large zoo. OTOH the sand dunes are amazing .. the country is large and we flew to see as much as possible, but you do miss the feeling of being on the road
