The Chatawal's price is based on it's self-categorization as a "luxury" property, in its management's mind on par with its former Marriott "peers" StR and RC (and now, with Hyatt, PH).
This hotel wins awards every year from the Condé Nast type crowd which may be the reason why the opinion is so high. The rooms look small and uninteresting and as I've mentioned earlier, the location of this property is not great. Setting aside the Park Hyatt as a Hyatt based alternative, if you're paying comparative cash rates and looking for a nice boutique hotel in a great location, the Lowell is a far better option.
