I don't know if Fresno has a better hotel or not. I can say that Modesto, Turlock & Stockton don't. I stayed at the Hyatt Place Fresno a few years ago and liked it then. It is a new build (not a converted Amerisuites) and had all the design elements which are now standard in new Hyatt Places which are opening now (Hard wood floors, blinds instead of curtains, a decent work area with computers & printer in the lobby, full bar and large breakfast area). Not a 4 star property but the nicest Hyatt Place property I'd ever stayed at the time. Globalist recognition there included free items from the grab & go and their free breakfast was decent (for a H.P.). The G.M. actually called me a few days after i checked out and thanked me for staying with them. I don't get to Central CA often but if I was in Fresno I'd stay there again.
