I'll pile in, and say "load of rubbish", in the absence of a specific factor, which had it applied they would surely have mentioned. I think the computer age has bypassed some staffers, combined with a silly tactic of making stuff up. Not unique to BA or even Britain but human nature seems to struggle with the idea that there are some things we don't know about and should therefore not pronounce about.
