we are flying RSW to LHR via DTW. We chose “delta premium select” on the booking page. All has worked as expected on the transatlantic leg, however on the domestic flight we’ve been allocated main cabin. The plane is an airbus A321 and we appreciate it doesn’t have premium select (just first, comfort +, main) but I’m surprised we weren’t allocated comfort +? Does anyone know the policy here?

One potential nuance that might be impacting things is there are currently no selectable seats in comfort +. however there are several blocked on the system which I’m hoping will become available at some point, and am keen to understand my chances of getting them! (Eg if it might happen automatically, if it might be worth asking an agent nicely.. etc).

Incase relevant I’m a gold medallion, but ideally hoping to secure seats further forward in advance and not roll the dice on a comp upgrade as our connection time in DTW is shorter than I would normally prefer for a winter transit (1 hr 6 min).

This is the first time I’ve bought anything other than a main cabin fare, so many thanks in advance for any guidance!
Comfort+ seats can go pretty fast on flights due to comp upgrades at booking for Plats and Diamonds. They generally have some seats reserved in C+ for special needs pax that will open up at gate if there are no special needs pax on flight. Also, C+ can often have seats open up starting at 5-day window when Plats and Diamonds may get upgraded from C+ to FC.
