Maiden and married names - changeover issues

My wife and I have just booked flights with BA for this summer and realised that her passport expires on literally the day we land back in the UK, so she will need to apply for a new passport.

Her current passport and BA Exec Club membership are both in her maiden name. She was intending to renew her passport with her married name. However, the ticket (which we've just booked) is of course in her maiden name.

Further complicating things is the booking is part-paid with Avios.

I understand BA can change the name for free as long as the change is made during the 24 hour cool-off period. can anyone tell me please if this Is this definitely the case?

As additional considerations, would BA charge for updating a maiden name to a married name after the 24 hour period - and if so, does anyone know how much it would be please? Or would they need to effectively cancel the ticket and then sell me a new one (with the cost implications that might entail)?

And what is the process for updating the name on Exec Club, to ensure she gets the tier points from the flight?

Thanks in advance for any help.
