Exactly, you can't come down steep/fast lest you smash the plane into the runway and it breaks apart. Gotta bring it down gently. On takeoff, there's no worry about smashing into the sky.

But i would assume that even in LCY where the final approach is 5.5 degrees, maybe at the last few seconds before touchdown they chould change the degree to avoid "breaking apart"?
