Budapest has some reasonable J fares to Tokyo/Domestic Japan destinations ( at least at end of April when i am planning on going). Will tie it in with a day or 2 in Budapest ( stayed at the hilton in Budapest in November when I flew to Tokyo with Lufthansa on the 748)
Routings are
BUD-LHR-TYO ( BA & BA/JAL) this can be extended to BUD-LHR-FRA-TYO
BUD-HEL-TYO ( AY & AY/JAL)
but prices are not tier point run cheap ( C £2.2k rtn)
Lufthansa was under £2k from BUD via FRA
as mentioned above with Qatar not offering cheap fares mostly and limited availability on Cathay, you may find you have to take what is offered and leave a tier point run for later or route to the USA.
