I am leaning towards calling in soon after all the replies. I did think it was a bit odd to not waive the interest in addition to the fee. The extra kick in the balls is that the points I accrued during that statement are in "purgatory" and AMEX wants a $35 fee to reinstate. Luckily I got the 90k signup without issue, I was worried about that.

Something similar happened with me a handful of years ago on my Gold card. I called in on something unrelated for my Centurion card and I mentioned the error I made on the Gold card, they quickly offered an one time courtesy credit and freed up the points without a fee. With your on time payment history, my guess a similar reply is given to you.
