Both United & Delta have recently launched 3 or 4/week direct flights to CPT- now, saving the trip around Europe & Middle East. The basic Delta price is around $2600 from Atlanta, but United is $1600 from EWR & IAD. So the United price is on par with BA, but they have a quick turnaround at CPT, so the plane is in the air most of the time.
Those are also both ULH flights so fuel costs are probably exponentially higher than LHR-ZA, not sure about crew too. That said, UA probably offsets that with catering savings.
