Best I can tell there was some issue going on with receiving runway condition reports from Ithaca ATC in a suitable format to meet GoJet's operational standards. Appears the pax were bussed from SYR to ITH and whatever the issue is appears to have been resolved as they operated the flight yesterday and the flight for today is currently taxiing for departure.

Based on that and the reporting in the news what was said by the crew appears to be correct and not contradictory, nor "no explanation". Maybe not a thorough explanation, but definitely not "no explanation"
