I had that happen once on an award ticket I had booked for myself on either DL or AA to Asia...but in that case the airline contacted me well in advance to request the additional tax $$$. Since I booked this QR award in April and the tax went up in July that still had more than FIVE MONTHS to contact me requesting more in taxes.
