The Subashiri trail is beckoning. Decent gaiters look to be obligatory.
Watched the Keiji climbed Mt Fuji video, that also shows the Subashiri trail. The kid confirms it was more challenging than he had expected. Importantly, it was the boy himself who said he wanted to climb, I think this is key.
Watching the video, MrLapLap, who had thought he had just visited the 5th Station with an uncle when he was about 9, realised that he must have climbed rather higher.
I’ve put off the climb for the past twenty years, finally I’m getting the call. Will be taking it slowly though, none of us want to rush it.
Gaiters are helpful, but nothing will completely prevent stuff from getting inside your boots. The good news is you only have to put up with sandy boots for 2hrs on the decent.
