A has one for sure. It's to the left of the lefthand gatekeeper's podium (so 'past' to your point.) I don't recall seeing one at C last week. I haven't been to the others in ages. I think they all claim to have one, but to your point, the logistics don't really jive with how you physically have to enter.
I'm on about a 75% run of not being admitted till I both scan my boarding pass and am asked to produce the physical card for a swipe. I'm kind of assuming if things don't go perfectly with the QR code (and as I mentioned I'm on a string of false negatives), something flags you as an undesirable and you have to do the walk of shame back to the end of the line anyway. So I just start there.
Are you using a kiosk-printed paper boarding pass? I got 'denied' a couple of weeks ago in A. The drAAgon eventually let me in (full, dumb story below) and a nice gentleman at the upstairs desk said that they had been having trouble with the kiosk paper boarding passes scanning properly and my phone should produce better results. That said, I've had a couple of issues with the phone, too. (I think literally 2. One a C a year or two ago, and one in PHX last summer. Both were resolved quickly and cheerfully, though, unlike last week in A.)
Longer Story: In true AA-style, the drAAgon immediately took a condescending attitude when she saw my paper boarding pass had F on it, and made sure that I was properly chided for not knowing that domestic F didn't come with lounge access. Feeling sporty, I retorted that I've been an AC member for several years, know the drill, and there must be some mistake. She huffed and begrudingly took my AAdvantage number along with a quick look at my card. After some typing and hemming-and-hawing, she finally, defeatedly, decided to let me proceed. /rolleyes
