I think this is one of those "grass is always greener" issues. I'm tired of not spending time with my family, not being able to get stuff taken care of at home (errands, etc.), and just being in unfamiliar cars/hotels/etc., but I do love not being stuck in an office, and I love visiting clients and helping them solve problems.

I travel to some remote locations (one of my recent trips was to a place referred to in a Southwest Airlines magazine article as the most remote place in the continental US, although I'm not sure it's THAT remote). Many of the places I go to don't even have a Holiday Inn Express, much less a Marriott, Starwood, Westin, etc. Meaning all that "glamorous" travel is spent flying 1-3 hours, then sometimes driving for another several hours, then staying at some dinky hotel (one star, if I'm lucky). I'd much rather be in my own comfy bed with high-count sheets and down comforter, be able to cook my own meal, and be able to visit a Target if I need to.

I agree with Chapel Hill Guy - if I'm going to have to put up with this crap, I BETTER get some miles/points out of it. Although I'd rather have more nights at home.

The good news for me is that I really don't encounter much animosity in the office. Sure, I think some of my coworkers envy the flexible schedules we have, but overall I'm lucky to work in a place where most everyone's friendly.
