We had the same issue with our Aeroplan booking: could not select our own seats. I was able to access the seat selection page on Egypt Air website (through My Bookings, Additional Services) but all seats were unavailable. After the check in time started, I could see availability but was unable to move us from BC to AB in the same row nor to any other seats.
I emailed Egypt Air 10-12 days before our flight (which was 4 days ago) and have yet to hear back.
Add: Upon reflection, this may have been due to “minders” on our flight, who were there to take care of us (and other atypical travelers). Thanks, Egyptair, for being very thoughtful!
