... Marriott - Daily Destination Fee!!!

I stay at the Sheraton Grand in downtown Los Angeles several times a year. My last stay was the week before Christmas, and my next stay is late-January. When I booked the January stay, there was a $25/day "Destination Amenity Fee" added to my reservation, which for a 3 night stay is another $75 money grab.
It appears that the resort fees are no longer for resorts, and now we apparently are being ask to pay an upcharge at many properties regardless of any real amenities!

For comparison purposes: The Westin Bonaventure doesn't appear to have this fee, the JW at LA Live is $30/night (yet the Courtyard or Residence Inn at LA Live don't), the W Hollywood is $29/day

This is beyond absurd -- if you want to charge more, charge more and let the market determine whether your price is fair. But don't pile more mandatory and absurd charges on top of a rate. Yeah, I get that people who book with the app can select to include taxes and fees, but many of us book another way (e.g., corporate travel sites), which don't show the all-in costs when comparison shopping.

Personally, this has gone too far now -- the nightly rate shown should include any mandatory fees. It's no longer transparent to the consumer, and is simply a money grab from the unsuspecting. Of course, Marriott will sit back and do nothing here, but the Biden administration has expressed an interest in further regulating hidden fees like this, so this puts Marriott right in the cross-hairs. But hey, the car rental companies get away with an 11.11% concession recovery fee and some other bogus fees so my $40/day corporate rental is often closer to $60/day -- so why shouldn't we pile on to hotel rates.
