It seemed that loyalty points in previous months always posted to my next statement, though, and didn't take 8-10 weeks, so I think everything will be fine. If not, the world will not end.

Forget about the "8-10 weeks" language all together.
That is just AA's generic catch-all way of saying that when the miles actually post to your AA account will be some time after when the purchase is actually made, and being extra conservative at that.
Purchases in January and February will post to whatever statement they normally would, i.e. the next statement.
