Delayed Baggage Nightmare - Reference Not Working

So not sure if this is a common situation.

Flew into LHR this morning with a domestic connection. Bags checked to final destiation.

None of the bags turn up at the final destination. That is not unusual I know.

What is more problematic is that when I tried to log my missing bags using the QR code at the baggage carousel is that the App advised that these bags had already been logged as missing. So I went to the Menzies baggage desk and they logged a claim. They said that the reason it was showing up as already logged on the BA system is because the Baggage Tickets were "recycled" codes. The guy said he would log a fresh claim and gave me a 10 character reference number (5 letters / 5 numbers). He said I could track the bags on the BA.com missing bag page. However, when I try to track the reference number on BA.Com I get the following message "Sorry The baggage report number and/or name you have entered cannot be matched. Please enter the details again or contact British Airways Baggage Services Team.". Unfortunately, trying to speak to tthe BA "Baggage Services Team"is neigh impossible - been on hold for 30 min approx already with no indication that I will get to speak to a human at any point.

Has anyone had experience of having a missing baggage reference no that the BA site says is supposedly invalid?

The frustrating thing is I know where some of the bags are. Certain bags had Airtags in and I know that some have reached their final destination and at least one inexplicably appears to remain in LHR. However, I have no confidence that these bags will turn up if the operative at Menzies has not properly logged the missing/delayed baggage claim properly.

Any help would be appreciated.
