I think OP was just curious. The question whether it makes sense to risk having to pay compensations/accomodation/food by offering short connections is a legitimate one. Obviously BA believes the answer is yes.

As far as BA is concerned, I'm fine with it as I get a choice as a customer. What I hate is what LH Group does, when they force pax on the shortest possible connection most of the time by simply not offering longer layovers on their website. (It can be circumvented via Expedia though.)
