I do a walk around video with the agent on return. That way I know what concerns there are and they know I know. I also have the notate the walk around. I have only had pushback one time in many years. Started doing that after a rental in Jamaica. They give you a beat up car and claim you did it all if you have no proof.
I will remember that if I rent in Jamaica. But when renting domestic in USA with Hertz or Avis there is rarely an agent available to document a return. Often there is literally no one. Even when you find someone they aren't going to notate anything. I believe they now have license plate camera recognition as you drive into the return area (at least at airports) so they have clear documentation and they are cost reducing employees at return areas. I guess this has become off topic for Ritz card...
