You can, but if the rental agency finds a problem with the car afterwards you may be stuck with no credit card CDW coverage. Does not happen often, but something to think about.
I do a walk around video with the agent on return. That way I know what concerns there are and they know I know. I also have the notate the walk around. I have only had pushback one time in many years. Started doing that after a rental in Jamaica. They give you a beat up car and claim you did it all if you have no proof.
