To be fair, I posed this question to Avios however, they have not responded. So, the FT folks can have their say now.
I needed to purchase some points to top up my account. When I looked at the Avios site there was a huge discrepancy of costs between British pound and US dollars (and minor for the Euro). Being in Canada, I am forced to buy in US dollars.
This is what it works out as, at today’s rate (I selected 10,000 points as a reference)
10,000 would cost
£175, €201 or $300. This is from the Avios site
https://pgt.shopping.ba.com/resources/pricing-buy
The equivalency of
£175 is $213.86 (€197.22). Simple math says that they overcharge by about $80.
Any comments?
